Christopher Barrie Hansford
Substitute Teacher
Chris is originally from the UK and first came to Singapore in 2007.
He has 24 years of teaching experience, using a variety of teaching methodologies, including the UK National Curriculum, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and combining the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), UK Curriculum for English and MOE Singapore Maths.
His first degree and background was in Engineering, where he worked in the Quarry and Mining Industries. Whilst being a Quarry Manager, as part of the corporate responsibility work that the company did, he became a Mentor for disadvantaged children in the local community. Realising the benefits that mentoring can bring to students, he decided to study to become a teacher and achieved his post graduate PGCE qualification in 2000 (specialising in maths) from the University of East Anglia in the UK and started his teaching career.
He joined Middleton International School as one of the first 2 Class Teachers at the Upper Bukit Timah campus at the beginning of 2017 and moved to the Tampines campus just over 2 years ago.
Chris believes in ensuring best practices in the classroom by delivering engaging and challenging lessons in a supportive environment so that all students are motivated and confident to realise their potential.
He loves teaching and is enjoying his current role as a Substitute Teacher, as every day is different, and it gives him the variety and opportunity to use his teaching skills across all ages and disciplines whilst still being part of the fantastic teaching community at MIS and promoting its values.
Chris’s other passion is his sport. He is a qualified Tennis Coach and Tae Kwon Do Instructor. In his spare time, he enjoys keeping fit and playing tennis.
