Jamie Murthwaite
Secondary Teacher
Jamie is a passionate Teacher of English with more than twenty years of experience as a practitioner, teaching A Levels. His role prior to Middleton was as a Curriculum Leader for A Level English in a large and highly successful sixth-form college in Manchester in the UK. Teaching at Middleton is his first international position and he enjoys the new experiences and challenges that secondary teaching brings.
Jamie believes in encouraging students towards academic excellence through their active engagement and demonstration of the skills they need to succeed. He strives to broaden the students’ understanding of English, its rich and diverse history, and the wider cultural concepts it contains. In this way, he hopes that his students will be prepared not just for examinations, but for the broader expectations of English in the professional world that they will encounter in international contexts.
When not teaching Jamie enjoys being active, practising calisthenics, rock climbing and hiking. He tries to impart the broader skills he has learnt from these experiences to his students, and he enjoys offering sports-based ECAs.
